Gothenburg Travel Week Part IV: The Volvo Brand Shop

When visiting Gothenburg, the obvious choices for visitation by Volvo-minded tourists are well-known destinations such as the Volvo Museum and a factory tour. Not so obvious, but something not to miss is the Volvo Merchandise Shop.
As with the Volvo Museum, the Volvo Merchandise Shop pre-dates Volvo AB’s sale of the car operations to The Ford Motor
Company, so the store shares floor space for Volvo branded goods geared for both Volvo automobile enthusiasts and Volvo commercial truck enthusiasts. All the better. There’s more to choose from this way.
The store itself is easy to miss, located in a rather nondescript looking little shopping cluster in the shadows of the factory complex – officially listed as Volvo City, Goteborg. It’s not more than a five-minute drive from either the visitor center from which tours are staged or the Volvo Museum.
Inside, we found a range of clean Swedish looking products with the Volvo brand logo. Some of the items like Minichamps 1:43 scale models of various Volvos models are relatively easy to find without traveling the whole way to Sweden, though other items such as Volvo Racing jackets and vests, handsome aluminum suitcases, watches, pens, clothing and hats were all new to our eyes. We spotted a cool-looking stuffed moose in trucker garb over on the Volvo AB side of the shop.
With the dollar relatively weak against the Swedish Krona, there aren’t many bargains to be had. Still, when you’re a die-hard enthusiast who’s travelled this far from home, perhaps it’s worth it to splurge on some items you’re likely not to find anywhere else. You hear that moose calling, right?
The shop is open Monday through Friday from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. You can reach the shop at +46 31-53 09 70 or fax +46 31-54 29 70.
