There benefits to taking part in the Overseas Delivery Program are many, but the most obvious is taking a bound-to-be memorable family vacation and saving a few bucks on the purchase of a new Volvo. The program also is a great way to special-order a Volvo that is specifically built to your tastes and needs. Pricing on OSD Volvos is generally better than buying a car straight off of the lot. Better yet, the OSD package also includes two free Scandinavian Airlines round-trip tickets to Europe, a night’s stay at the SAS Radisson Hotel in the heart of Gothenburg, insurance to cover the car while in Europe and shipment of the car back to your local Volvo dealer when the trip is completed. If Gothenburg or Sweden isn’t your speed, Volvo doesn’t limit you to their stomping grounds. For an extra fee, Volvo can deliver your vehicle to one of eleven major European cities that are popular vacation spots for Americans, such as Paris and London. Many customers do opt for pickup at Volvo’s corporate headquarters in Gothenburg, claimed one of the most beautiful cities in Sweden. Most of the population here speaks English fluently, and the scenery is both untouched and majestic.
Customers arrive in Gothenburg and are met at the airport by a driver who takes them to check in at their hotel downtown. When it’s time to head to their very modern delivery center, Volvo picks guests up at the hotel and transports them to the facility, usually via a stretched Volvo S80 limousine. Perhaps the most exciting part of the experience is when a customer’s car arrives. A garage door with the ‘Volvo’ script logo affixed rises and behind it, the specific car that the traveler ordered back in the USA is driven out and presented to them.
Just as you would find in your dealership at home, a Volvo attendant walks you around the vehicle, explaining the various controls and adjustments. Attendants with the program can also help you plan your trip. Volvo can cater to requests in regards to travel plans, providing maps, guides and more in a very comprehensive fashion.
Volvo also offers a range of pre-packaged travel plans that range from three to eleven days. These travel packages encompass everything from a cultural focus like visits to Swedish castles to some amazing skiing for the active. Each package can be priced per person based on single occupancy, double occupancy or inclusion of children and covers everything from hotel and meals to general admission to travel destinations. The program is great for those looking to keep to a budget. At the end of your trip, simply turn the car back in to Volvo. The vehicle then takes about six weeks to be delivered to your local Volvo dealership in America where final delivery shouldn’t take more than a few minutes.
Not surprisingly, Volvo maintains a loyal list of clientele who’ve taken advantage of the Overseas Delivery program. Many owners choose to take part over and over again, buying each new car in the same fashion.
