Spy photos: 2012 V40

Dec 19, 2011 - 9:02:12 PM

Here are the latest spy photos of the car considered to be the V30 until Friday when Volvo´s CEO Stefan Jacoby revealed that the new model will be called V40. Spy photography sources tell us, not only will the V40 be a new model, but it will also replace two existing models.

When the V40 arrives during 2012, sources tell us the current S40 and V50 will be removed from the Volvo line-up. It’s still unclear if the C30 will be replaced or if it also will be deleted from the line-up. During a recent interview, Stefan Jacoby was asked if the V40 would also replace the C30, but just answered that the C30 is a 3 door car and the new one will have more than 3 doors. So we have to wait and see what happens to the C30 in the future.

The new V40 is aiming for the Audi A3 Sportback and BMW´s new 1-series, a signal that Volvo is trying to go more premium with the new car. From the design, we guess that it will look like a smaller version of the V60, which isn’t a bad thing. Later, sources tell us that we may see a XC40, and rumors of a S40 sedan for the Chinese market have also surfaced. The new V40 will have its public debut in March at the Geneva Car Show.

Here is a clip of Stefan Jacoby discussing the V40. Thanks to Geenen Raphael for the tip.
