Volvo has already announced in August last year of moving to TTA - Elitserien Racing for the 2012, and today they released the first pictures of the new race car.
"We had a great pressure on us from the many curious Volvo enthusiasts in that it is a new series and new race car. Therefore, we chose to release the pictures now. Our final team colors, we'll reveal at a later date but this will be our S60 in TTA contest execution," says Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, commercial director of motorsport at Volvo Cars.
Volvo will race with four cars in the Elite Racing in conjunction with Polestar in two different teams, Volvo Polestar Volvo and Polestar Performance. Three out of four drivers have been made, Robert Dahlgren, Fredrik Ekblom and Thed Björk. The fourth driver would not reveal just yet.
"No, we can not go into that today. We are in dialogue with three drivers, but we have other things more urgent. Polestar and TTA final test the cars while we are working on hybrid systems, producing carbon fiber body shells and grundkalibrerar aerodynamics for all racing cars in our wind tunnel," says Derek Crabb, Motorsport Director for Volvo Car Corporation.
With three months left until the premiere May 12 at Karlskoga Motor Stadium approaching a whole new future for the Swedish motor with sporting values, tight race, and a whole new regulations with exciting new technology. Volvo supported the idea from the start, and has initially contracted to participate in the TTA Elitserien in racing until 2015.
"Motorsport should be cool, exciting and fair. We should be able to compete against our bitterest rivals of our best selling models. Are we doing the best job we will be able to win and it should be easy for car importers in the country to be able to change race for model replacement without the need for heavy plant applications. We are really looking forward to Elite Racing in 2012," said Anders Gustafsson, CEO of Volvo Cars Sweden.
