TOOELE, UTAH (April 28, 2012) – After starting in third position, Randy Pobst in his K-PAX Volvo S60 finished in sixth-place in the GT Class in the fourth leg of the 2012 Pirelli World Challenge.
On the standing start Randy had to go off in the dirt to avoid a collision with a Porsche. “It was an unfortunate incident,” Pobst said, “It put me off into the dirt and allowed a couple of cars to get around me before turn one.”

Pobst’s teammate, Alex Figge, started 9th and moved up to up to 6th place by the end of the first lap. Unfortunately, on lap three Figge got a punctured right front tire forcing him to pit and he ended 14th.

“The car was working great,” Figge said, “ I was along side and passing one of the Cadillacs when the tire went flat. It was pretty hairy there for a few moments until I got it slowed down.”

With his sixth-place finish, Pobst now sits in fifth place in the drivers’ championship. Volvo is in third place in the manufacturers’ championship race with 14 points, trailing Cadillac (32 points) and Porsche (30 points).

“We still have eight races to go,” Pobst said. “Some of those tracks will favour our cars and all the hard work the crew is doing will pay off.”

The next race of the Pirelli World Challenge is May 11 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, at Monterey, California.
