K-PAX Racing Volvo S60 Finishes Fourth at Sonoma

SONOMA, Calif. (Aug. 26, 2013) – Randy Pobst drove his K-PAX Racing Volvo S60 to a fourth-place finish in the GT class of the Pirelli World Challenge race at Infineon Raceway today.

It was feast and famine for Pobst who took the lead at the green flag from the third starting position. In Turn 2, Pobst was bumped by Cadillac’s Andy Pilgrim and spun out. After being passed by the rest of the GT field and most of the GTS cars, Pobst returned to the race far behind the leaders.

“After the spin, I knew I had a long way to go,” Pobst said. “I think I was back in 11th (in class) and eventually worked my way up to fourth. The K-PAX Volvo ran very well today; I’ve got no complaints about the car’s performance, that’s for sure.”

Pobst’s teammate, Alex Figge, started sixth and was in third place by Turn 2. He ran 7 laps in second behind eventual winner Pilgrim until an engine management problem forced him to leave the race.

“Our season has been like that,” Figge said. “We have had great ups and great downs. All we can do is keep our eyes focused on the next race, prepare the cars as best we can and try to win.”

After 13 of the 14 races this season, Volvo is third in manufacturers’ points with 73. Volvo trails Cadillac (100) and Audi (78).

In the drivers’ points chase, Figge is fifth with 1101 points and Pobst is fourth with 1210 points.

The Pirelli World Challenge race at Infineon Raceway will be televised on the NBC Sports Network on Sept. 8th at 3:30 p.m. EDT. Time and date subject to change.
